About Jack and MPS
Jack Mahony is the typical eight-year-old kid-next-door. If he’s not on the soccer field or making a huge splash in the pool, he can be seen cruising around on his bike through his neighborhood. With his carefree nature and his permanent smile, one would not easily know that a few years ago, Jack was diagnosed with Hunter Syndrome, also known as MPS II. It is a genetic disorder that affects major organs in the body, including the respiratory system, heart, bones, and nervous system. Affecting mostly children, it is caused by the body’s inability to produce certain enzymes. Jack represents hundreds of children around the country with this debilitating disease, many of whom are waiting for a treatment and eventually a cure for these rare, progressive, and deadly diseases. Currently, Jack receives infusion treatments at Minneapolis' Children's Hospital on a weekly basis. He continues to do well and make huge strides in his development.
