Jack Mahony leads kids' courage dash in 2007.
About Jack and MPS Jack Mahony is the typical seven-year-old kid-next-door. If he’s not on the soccer field or playing kickball with friends, he can be cruising around on his bike through his neighborhood. With his carefree nature and his permanent smile, one would not easily know that more than a year ago, Jack was diagnosed with Hunter Syndrome, also known as MPS II. It is a genetic disorder that affects major organs in the body, including the respiratory system, heart, bones, and nervous system. Affecting mostly children, it is caused by the body’s inability to produce certain enzymes. Jack represents hundreds of children around the country with this debilitating disease, many of whom are waiting for a treatment and eventually a cure for these rare, progressive, and deadly diseases.
